Have been working on decoding political agency for some time. My earlier work was centred on “change agents” that entrepreneurially appeared to be affecting contested political decisions. I have invariably considered the networks of these agents as instrumental to their agency and have concluded that their exceptionality is network contingent.
Have looked at exceptional political agents as brokers in banking regulation with Lucia Quaglia I have examined the determinants of exceptionality through a classification of political entrepreneurs with Karin Ingold and more recently considered truly exceptional actors to oscillate between roles.
I am currently looking at the evolution of exceptional agency (political entrepreneurship, brokerage, leadership etc) across different stages of the policy cycle with Karin Ingold and Manuel Fisher and exceptional agents in banking regulation with Scott James.
